The Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) has purchased simulators from virtual training and simulation developer VSTEP to use in its new education centre in Kingston, Jamaica.

With its new simulator solutions, including a Class C engine room simulator, a NAUTIS full mission bridge simulator and full classroom systems for the NAUTIS desktop trainers and engine room desktop stations, CMI will be able to offer advanced training capabilities to maritime students and professionals. VSTEP will also provide its RescueSim virtual incident management simulators for realistic maritime incident training.

“We are very pleased with our engagement of VSTEP because the purchase of these simulators will solidify our position as the simulator centre of the Caribbean,” said Fritz Pinnock, director of CMI. “It will also make CMI the simulator showroom for VSTEP in the Americas.”

The CMI’s simulation centre is expected to become one of the Caribbean’s most innovative hubs for maritime training and education. Students will be able to use the realistic simulation solutions to build their skills and fulfil their training requirements. They can also attend courses in ship-handling, engine room procedures, collision avoidance, as well as ECDIS, Radar, ARPA, AIS and other navigational training.

Mark Polderman, sales director at VSTEP, added: “With this investment, the CMI underlines its ambition to become the pinnacle of maritime training centres in the Caribbean, incorporating professional simulator training of the highest quality into its curriculum.”
