Award-winning Canadian news anchor, producer and creative director Coleen Christie is to officially christen Emerald Waterways’ newest Star Ship, Emerald Destiny.

Christie will be the line’s first Canadian godmother and will name Emerald Destiny in Vienna, Austria this May.

“We’re thrilled that Coleen Christie has agreed to be Destiny’s godmother,” said Lisa Norton, vice president of brand management for Emerald Waterways North America. “Canada is a strong market for us, and Christie’s impeccable reputation as a newscaster along with dedication to charitable work makes her an excellent fit for our brand.”

To sail on the Danube, Rhine and Maine in Germany, Emerald Destiny is the fifth in Emerald Waterways’ Star Ship fleet and will accommodate 186 guests. The vessel will have a swimming pool and a cinema in her aft area, as well as indoor balconies in most cabins. These will feature a decked area and an open-air system.

Two more Star Ships will be launched this year, including the 138-guest Emerald Liberté, which will sail the Saône & Rhône rivers in France after her April 2017 launch. Emerald Radiance, which carries only 112 passengers, will debut on Portugal’s Douro River in May.
