Columbus Cruise Center Wismar in Germany welcomed two maiden calls in two days at the start of August 2015.

Calling on 2 August, Windstar Cruises’ Star Legend brought mainly American passengers who were able to explore Berlin, Scherin and the UNESCO World Heritage town of Wismar.

To mark the inaugural call, Wismar’s mayor, Thomas Beyer, presented a plaque and key to Star Legend’s captain James Griffiths.

“The passengers enjoyed our welcome programme very much and especially the farewell accompanied by music of the Klasbachthaler Orchestra and gun salute of the traditionally dressed fusiliers,” said Nicole Wriggers, cruise coordinator of Columbus Cruise CenterWismar.

On 3 August, Beyer welcomed Azamara Club Cruises’ Azamara Quest, which arrived at 7am captained by Jose Vilharino. Guests enjoyed various shore excursions and then a pier party, which included live music and a fireworks display, before the ship departed.

“We have received a lot of positive feedback from passengers and crew about our activities,” said Michael Kremp, managing director of Seehafen Wismar and Columbus Cruise CenterWismar. “From a dedicated town map to the farewell ceremonies, together the pieces made them all feel very welcome in Wismar.”
