Costa Concordia and her convoy had travelled around 130 nautical miles from Giglio Island by 1pm CET on Friday 25 July.
The ship, which left Giglio at around 11am local time on Wednesday 23 July, is travelling at an average speed of 2.1 knots in light winds and calm water. The vessel is currently expected to complete the 200 nautical mile journey to her final destination of Genoa early on Sunday morning.
Weather conditions are predicted to deteriorate late on Friday and on early Saturday morning, with local forecasts indicating rain on the Riviera di Levante. Conditions are expected to improve on Saturday afternoon and remain stable until Sunday.
Remotely operated vehicles will continue to perform continuous checks around the wreck throughout the remainder of the voyage, while a coast guard-operated helicopter is also carrying out environmental checks. Environmental checks of the water around Concordia’s bow and stern indicated that the quality of the seawater is good, while further analysis was carried out on Friday morning by technicians from ARPAL, ARPAT e Port Authority.
