Corvus Energy has been selected by Holland Ship Electric to supply lithium-ion battery-based energy storage systems (ESS) for five new electric-powered ferries being built by Holland Shipyard Group in the Netherlands for public transport provider GVB.
The ferries will operate on three North Sea canal routes, replacing the current fleet built in the 1930s. They are part of GVB’s newbuilding and retrofit programme, which will see the company converting its entire fleet to hybrid or electric propulsion by 2025.

The ferries will be equipped with air-cooled Corvus Orca Enegry ESS, which will supply electrical power to the ferries’ all-electric power and propulsion system. Each ferry will be 41 metres in length and will be able to accommodate 20 cars, as well as four trucks or 400 passengers.
The first new ferry will be delivered in the summer of 2021. One will then be delivered every six months until 2023.
