Costa Cruises’ Costa Atlantica has departed on her first-ever Around-the-World Cruise from Shanghai, China.
The ship, which has been deployed in China since May 2013, began her inaugural 86-day Around-the-World cruise on 1 March and will take around 1,000 passengers to 28 destinations in 18 countries on five continents. These include the Maldives; Athens, Greece; Sicily, Catania and Rome in Italy; Marseille, France; Barcelona, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; New York City, Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the US; and the Polynesian paradise islands of Maui and Hawaii.
“As a cruise industry leader in the China market, we strive to bring the best holiday options for our valued customers in the region,” said Buddy Bok, president of Costa Asia. “Our unique packaging for the World Cruise will undoubtedly exceed consumer expectations. At Costa Cruises, we are always keen to bring new formulas to make a difference in China’s cruise industry.”
Prior to Costa Atlantica’s departure, the line held a blessing ceremony that was attended by Michael Thamm, CEO of Costa Cruises, government officials, trade partners, journalists and partners.
“The first world voyage by a cruise ship specially for the Chinese market marks a particular milestone for the Costa Group and the rapid further development of our business in Asia,” said Michael Thamm, CEO of Costa Group. “We will invest further in this and accelerate the development of these important markets for the future with innovative ideas and products.”
