Costa Cruises is to launch a global contest to select the godmother of its latest flagship Costa Diadema.
Female travel agency owners, managers or frontline sales staff of any travel agency that sells Costa’s cruises can enter the contest – which runs from 18 July to 15 September – to become ‘La Madrina della Regina’.
Candidates will be asked to upload a photograph and answer three questions. A Genoa-based Costa committee will choose the ship’s godmother and four additional candidates who will act as ‘bridesmaids’ during the ceremony. According to Costa, the ideal godmother and bridesmaids will be ‘proven partners of Costa who can represent the company and its values’.
“We rely on our travel agent partners to sell Costa’s Italian-style product and to communicate what makes our cruises different,” said Scott Knutson, vice president of sales and marketing for Costa Cruises North America. “There is no better way to say thank you for their support and efforts than to honour five Costa travel sellers from around the world at the ceremony to welcome our new flagship into the fleet.”
The successful godmother and the four ‘bridesmaids’ will officially name Costa Diadema on 7 November in Genoa. The ceremony will be attended by previous Costa godmothers including Italian actresses Claudia Cardinale, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, model and actress Margareth Madé, French singer and actress Marion Cotillard and others.
Costa Diadema will sail seven-day cruises in the Western Mediterranean Sea from 8 November, visiting Italian ports of Savona, Naples and La Spezia, as well as the French port of Marseille and the Spanish ports of Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca.
