Costa Cruises has christened its newest ship, Costa Toscana, in a ceremony at the port of Barcelona in Spain.
Singer Chanel, who represented Spain in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, served as the ship’s godmother. Captain Pietro Sinisi joined Chanel for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with hosts and TV personalities Carlos Sobera and Flora Gonzalez. The ceremony was then closed by a performance by Italian violinist Andrea Casta.
Guests then moved to the aft of the ship on the Piazza del Campo terraces, where they viewed the ‘Molecule Show’, which featured a cluster of 300 helium-inflated spheres that lifted an acrobat over a trapeze. The aperitif and gala dinner was designed by Spanish chef Ángel León.
“It is a great thrill to celebrate the christening of our Costa Toscana in Barcelona, a city to which we are particularly attached and where we have been at home since the beginning of our history,” said Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Cruises. “For this occasion, we have organised an event to celebrate the start of a summer that marks the serene resumption of travel and vacations. The event features the excellence of Costa's offerings in all aspects, from high gastronomy to high quality entertainment, to unique experiences onshore.”
During summer 2022, Costa Toscana will offer week-long itineraries throughout the Western Mediterranean, including calls to Savona, Civitavecchia and Naples in Italy, Ibiza and Valenica in Spain, and Marseille in France.
