Costa Cruises has signed a memorandum of understanding with PortAventura World to enable the line’s guests to have exclusive entry to the amusement park when they visit Barcelona, Spain.

Located in the Costa Daurada near cruise destinations Barcelona and Tarragona, PortAventura World is the largest destination resort in Europe and offers an amusement park split into ‘worlds – Ancient China, Polynesia, Mexico and the Far West – and a water park.

Early next year, it will also open the new 60,000sqm Ferrari Land, which has been described as ‘the single most important project’ in PortAventura’s history. A highlight will include a 112-metre-high roller coaster – the highest in Europe – which will propel guests vertically upwards and straight back down with acceleration of 180 km/h in just five seconds to allow them to experience the same sensations as a Formula 1 driver.

“Costa Cruises will be the only cruise company offering its guests the truly special experience that is guaranteed by the thrills at PortAventura World,” said Massimo Brancaleoni, Costa’s senior vice president of WorldWide Sales. “This agreement simply confirms our constant commitment to innovate our product so as to offer our guests a vacation experience that is unique, memorable and unlike any other, increasing the value of our package and thus yielding additional benefits also for our commercial partners.”

The agreement also covers joint marketing and promotional activities.

“We consider the partnership with Costa Cruises as a perfect opportunity of synergy with a leading European company and one of the greatest exponents of Italian excellence,” said Giovanni Cavalli, PortAventura World’s general manager. “We are convinced that Costa Cruises’ philosophy combines perfectly with PortAventura World due to the fact that both companies are strongly focused on offering exclusive experiences with deep Mediterranean roots. We expect this partnership to be very profitable for both parts because it creates a unique combination for the family target that both companies share.”

Costa’s ships are to make around 250 calls in Barcelona in 2016-2017.
