Costa Cruises’ Costa Luminosa hosted representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and 30 delegates representing countries visited by the ship while docked in the Italian port of Savona on 28 September.
Organised in cooperation with the Italian Coast Guard, the event was held as part of ILO’s Train the Trainers programme, which provides a comprehensive set of practices, tools and learning modules related to the education of managers, learning facilitators and other professional trainers.
The event was attended by a group of international representatives, including eight officers from the China Maritime Safety Administration, who were greeted by Giuseppe Russo, captain of Costa Luminosa, and Maurizio Campagnoli, Costa’s institutional and industrial relations director.
As part of the visit, the group participated in a simulation of Flag State and Port State Control inspection and attended a presentation about the Italian Flag implementation of 2006 Maritime Labour Convention and MLC,2006 training for Italian inspectors. The presentation was given by captain Luigi Giardino, chief of the Italian Flag State Branch and captain Paolo Meneghetti, head of training centre of Italian Coast Guard.
