Costa Cruises’ Costa Luminosa started her 98-day Around-the-World Cruise from Savona, Italy, on 14 September.

Expected to cover more than 30,000 nautical miles, the ship will visit 39 destinations on five continents and return to Savona on 21 December.

More than 1,000 guests departed from Savona, while another 260 boarded the ship in the French city of Marseille on 15 September and 240 more will embark in Barcelona, Spain.

“The itinerary of this Around-the-World voyage will include stops in marvellous countries like France, Spain, the Antilles, Colombia, Mexico, the US, Hawaii, Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman and Jordan,” said Pietro Sinisi, captain of Costa Luminosa. “It’s a real dream come true for all great travellers who, thanks to Costa Cruises, will be able to visit five continents during a single trip.”

Costa Luminosa will make longer calls in destinations such as Los Angeles and San Francisco in the US; Honolulu, Hawaii; Cochin and Mumbai, India; and Sydney, Australia. The ship will also spend two days in Dubai, UAE, and three days in Singapore.

Shore excursion highlights will include a visit to Nelson’s Dockyard National Park in Antigua; a shopping afternoon in Los Angeles followed by an overnight stay in a hotel facing the Sunset Strip and a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon; a tour of attractions such as the Gaslamp Quarter and the Old Town in San Diego, California, US; and a four-hour visit to Oahu, Hawaii.

Meanwhile in Australia, guests will be able to enjoy dinner in the desert at Uluru (Ayers Rock) and visit the ‘The Twelve Apostles’ in Melbourne. They will also be able to leave the ship in Perth to travel to spend several days in Bali before re-embarking the ship in Singapore. Guests can also visit the Taj Mahal and the attractions in Delhi and Agra, India.

Costa Luminosa will sail Costa’s next world cruise from Savona on 6 January 2016. The 108-day itinerary that will cross the two Tropics and end on 23 April 2016.
