Costa Cruises is to host a welcome event in Shanghai, China, to mark its status as Costa Serena’s new homeport.

Known as the ‘Ship of gods’, Costa Serena will begin homeporting in Shanghai next April, offering the Chinese market an authentic European cruising experience.

Taking place on 28 November at the new K11 landmark in Shanghai’s city centre, the event will enable guests to enjoy musical and light performances, as well as a champagne reception. Following the event, Costa will host several roadshows to introduce Costa Serena to Shanghai and neighboring cities.

“Costa Serena will bring to Asian passengers the most unforgettable Italian lifestyle experience,” said Buhdy Bok, senior vice president of Pacific Asia and China, Costa Cruises. “Bringing our most innovative product to China remains our strategy to be the leader in the fast-growing China market. After eight years of successful operation in China, Costa will continue to thrive and expand its offerings and services in the region.”

Costa’s brand ambassador and Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan, who will serve as Costa Serena’s godmother, is to open the event.

“I was onboard Costa Serena this summer, every corner was embellished with gorgeous culture and I have been left with enduring memories of its delicate Italian cuisine, bounds of exciting activities, and pure relaxation of a European lifestyle,” said Yuanyuan. “I am deeply honoured to be the godmother of such an elegant ship of evocative beauty and all the best wishes to her voyage in China!”
