Croatia builds new ferry port

An extensive project to relocate the city of Zadar’s existing ferry port to Gaženica is currently underway in Croatia.

The Government of Croatia started constuction of the new port and passenger terminal in May 2009 and is due for completion by the end of 2013.

The port will provide an extended berthing capacity for larger international ferries, cruise ships and ro-ro vessels. It will also enhance on-shore facilities for passengers and vehicles, and improve links between the various ferry terminals along the Croatian coast, as well as links between Zadar, Croatia’s islands and other countries in the Mediterranean region.

A new motorway network will connect the port to Zadar airport, Zagreb and other areas of Croatia, as well as central Europe, enabling Croatia to develop its tourism sector.
