Uruguay expects to have handled 170 cruise ship calls and more than 300,000 passengers by the end of its 2015-2016 season.

This season, which opened on 6 November 2015 and will close on 10 April, the Port of Montevideo will host 109 calls, including three overnights. The port will also host two ships per day on 22 occasions and three ships per day on six occasions.

Meanwhile, the port of Punta del Este will welcome 61 calls, including one overnight, two ships per day on 16 occasions and three ships on one day.

“Ten years ago, 70 ships arrived in Uruguay and 170 will arrive this year,” said Carlos Fagetti, national director of Tourism of Uruguay. “Tourism cruises are characterised for being a great promoter in Uruguay, especially among visitors arriving from other regions.”
