Lisbon welcomed 9% more cruise passengers in the first half of 2015, compared to the same period in 2014.

The Portuguese city, which is to welcome calls from more than 40 cruise lines by the end of the year, handled 193,938 cruise passengers between January and June 2015.

Next year, the port will open a new cruise terminal designed by acclaimed architect Carrilho da Graça.

While in Lisbon, cruise tourists can visit the San Jorge Castle gardens, climb to the top of the Arco da Rua Augusta arch, enjoy a 40-minute tram ride past many of Lisbon’s key attractions, and explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Belém, the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and the Torre de Belém. There are also numerous of outdoor dining venues in Terreiro do Paço and alternative shops and art galleries in Bairro Alto.
