Passenger Terminal Amsterdam has added the handling of river cruise calls to its operations and has changed its name to Cruise Port Amsterdam.
River cruise calls to the Dutch capital had previously been handled by the Port of Amsterdam. However, the supervisory boards of both the Port of Amsterdam and Cruise Port Amsterdam agreed to the transfer of operations with the aim of increasing efficiency and improving customer focus in the sector.
“The merger of the handling of ocean and river cruise is a logical step,” said Dick de Graaff, director of Cruise Port Amsterdam. “We have the ability to make river cruise a core business. In addition to efficiency, this also offers opportunities at a strategic level. In the coming years we will focus on further development of sustainable cruise tourism in Amsterdam. Because river cruise docks across the city, the name Passenger Terminal Amsterdam no longer covers the business and therefore we have chosen to operate under our new name Cruise Port Amsterdam for the handling of ocean and river cruise.”
Monic van der Heyden, who was previously responsible for river cruise calls as commercial manager of cruise at the Port of Amsterdam, will move to Cruise Port Amsterdam to continue handling operations as commercial director.
“Amsterdam is a top destination in the Northern Europe sailing area for ocean and river cruise,” she said. “By accommodating the handling of both river and ocean cruise in one dedicated company, opportunities arise for optimising the service for our shipping companies and their passengers.”
