The Copenhagen Malmö Port authority is investing heavily in the expansion of the Port of Copenhagen, Denmark and the Port of Malmö, Sweden to improve their services and cater to the demands of increased traffic in the future. . The total investment for the facilities will be approximately DKK600 million.
The Port of Copenhagen will receive a new pier and three new terminal buildings, which are scheduled for completion in 2014. The three 3,330 sqm terminal buildings are currently under construction and will have 1,800 sqm for passenger handling and 1,500 sqm for luggage handling.
A 2,400sqm warehouse will be converted into a cruise terminal at the Port of Malmö, Sweden, allowing it to handle ten turnaround calls from Pullmantur’s Empress. The new building will open in May 2014.
“We’re looking forward to quickly gaining access to the new quay and terminals, which will enable us to give an even higher service to ships and passengers,” said Arnt Moller Pedersen, chief operating officer, cruise, ferries and maritime service, Copenhagen Malmö Port. “At the same time, the solutions for cars, buses and taxi service will become even more efficient.”
Around 820,000 passengers and 70 vessels will visit Copenhagen and Malmö from April to mid-October in the 2013 cruise season, including 12 inaugural calls. An additional five ships will visit in December, while the port is scheduled to receive at least 325 cruise calls for the 2014 season.
