Damen Shipyards floated out a new ro-pax ferry for Transporte Marítimo de Angola (TMA Express) during a launch ceremony at its yard in Singapore.
Augusto da Silva Tomás, minister of transport for the Republic of Angola, launched the new vessel, which was ordered by Angola’s Ministerio dos Transportes through Instituto Marítimo e Portuário de Angola. TMA Express will operate the ferry on Angola’s Atlantic coastline between the capital Luanda and Cabinda.
The ro-pax ferry has an aluminium hull and is both fast and fuel efficient, with a top speed of 20.5 knots. The vessel has a capacity for 60 passengers and the lower deck can carry up to 10 cars (or the equivalent) and nine containers.
Damen will now fit out and finish the interiors of the ferry, which is scheduled for delivery towards the end of June 2018.
