Costa Cruises’ Costa Deliziosa will remain in Valencia, Spain, to enable engineers to fix the technical problems that led to a power failure on 18 May.

Costa Deliziosa was berthed in Valencia when it experienced a technical failure at 6pm local time, which caused a temporary blackout. Costa reported that the ship’s engineers restored the electrical power supply and essential services ‘after a few hours’, but that the ship’s departure had been delayed. Passengers were offered complimentary shore activities in Valencia on 19 May.

On 20 May, Costa confirmed that all guests scheduled to disembark in Italy had been safely transferred to return charter flights to Rome and Genoa. Each passenger will receive a 50% refund of their ticket price and a €100 credit towards expenses incurred onboard the vessel.

Guests scheduled to embark on Costa Deliziosa’s 11-night Black Sea itinerary from the Italian ports of Civitavecchia (Rome) on 20 May and Savona on 21 May are now expected to join the ship in Savona on 23 May.

Costa will keep all guests informed about the new revised schedule and cruise programme. To compensate for any inconvenience, the line will reimburse guests for 25% of the price of the cruise and also offer them €100 of onboard credit. In addition, any guests who had already arrived in Savona to embark on the original cruise have been offered two nights’ accommodation in a four-star hotel.
