Deltamarin is to provide consulting and engineering services for DFDS’s two new ro-pax ferries, which will be built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) at its yard in Nansha, China.
As part of the €5 million (US$6.2 million) contract with GSI, Deltamarin will provide the shipyard with basic (approval) and detailed designs, as well as Safe Return to Port documentation. The contract covers all disciplines and the work will be carried out at Deltamarin’s offices in Finland and China with assistance from network companies in Europe over an estimated 13-month period.
“This significant order supports Deltamarin’s strategy to further strengthen our position in the passenger vessel segment,” said Janne Uotila, Deltamarin’s managing director. “We are very proud of this new contract and extremely happy to start cooperation with GSI to ensure that DFDS will get the next-generation vessels to support its growth strategy in the Baltic Sea.”
To be delivered in 2021, the two new DFDS ro-pax ferries will carry up to 600 passengers and have 4,500 lane metres for passenger vehicles and freight. The ice-class vessels will be equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) and other environmentally friendly technologies to lower fuel consumption and emissions. They will serve on one of DFDS’s Baltic routes connecting Lithuania to either Sweden or Germany.
