DFDS Seaways introduced a second new ferry on its Dover-Calais route between the UK and France on 23 February.
Prior to beginning service on the route, Côte des Flandres underwent an extensive interior refurbishment and now features new DFDS livery, the Lighthouse café, a self-service restaurant named 7Seas, a large shop, a children’s soft play area, and a Premium Lounge. In addition, the ferry also features the Road Kings area for commercial drivers, which encompasses shower facilities, a lounge, a dedicated outside deck area and a large restaurant serving free hot meals.
Côte des Flandres now operates alongside sister ship Côte des Dunes, which entered service on 9 February 2016, and Malo Seaways, which is temporarily on charter to DFDS while Calais Seaways is undergoing routine maintenance work. DFDS can now offer up to 30 daily sailings on the Dover-Calais route, an increase of 50%, while the new ships have also increased capacity for tourists and freight customers by 70%.
“We are always striving to ensure that customers are at the heart of everything we do,” said Carsten Jensen, senior vice president at DFDS. “Our new Calais ships, which are purpose-built for the Channel, form a key part of our commitment to provide customers with a high quality, frequent and reliable cross-Channel ferry service.”
Now that DFDS has three ferries on its Dover-Calais route and three on its Dover-Dunkirk route, it can offer up to 54 daily cross-Channel sailings.
