Princess Cruises veteran Dino Sagani has been appointed as captain of Majestic Princess, the line’s latest newbuild Majestic Princess.

Hailing from Italy, Sagani has served onboard various Princess ships since joining the company in 1995 and first became one of the line’s captains in 2007. He will lead a senior officer team, which has more than 100 years of collective seagoing experience.

Princess has also appointed UK-born Craig Street as a relief captain. Street, who joined Princess in 1990, has commanded multiple vessels since becoming a captain of Star Princess in 2008.

“We’re thrilled to appoint such experienced captains to our new cruise ship destined for China,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “These skilled officers bring considerable seagoing and management skills and we know they will deliver an exceptional and memorable cruise vacation experience to all Majestic Princess guests.”

Expected to set sail in spring 2017, the 3,560-guests Majestic Princess is the first ship Princess has designed and built specifically for the Chinese market. In addition to a number of new venues and experiences created for Chinese passengers, the ship will offer many of the same features as Royal Princess and Regal Princess. These include a multi-storey atrium; SeaWalk, a top-deck glass-bottomed walkway extending 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship; the Princess Live! interactive studio; and Chef’s Table Lumiere, a private dining experience that surrounds diners in a curtain of light.

Majestic Princess will homeport year-round in Shanghai, China.
