The newest Disney cruise ship, the Disney Fantasy, moved towards completion in the first week of January, with float-out from Meyer Werft’s Papenburg dock scheduled for 11am on Sunday 8 Jan.
The completion of work on the 340m vessel is the culmination of months of construction that started with the keel laying last February. Meyer Werft announced that final tests and trials would be carried out and the mast installed in the last hours before the ship’s departure from the yard.
The vessel is to be conveyed to the North Sea after float-out via the river Ems, with the exact timing still to be decided depending on the weather and tidal conditions. Disney will take delivery of the ship in Bremerhaven on 9 February and the undocking procedure will be broadcast live via webcam.
The Fantasy is the fourth cruise liner in the Disney fleet. It has 1,250 staterooms and can accommodate 4,000 passengers and more than 1,450 cast and crew members. The ship will start sailing in March.
