Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) welcomed Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic to the Port of Boston, US for the first time on 18 May.
Calling as part of her 15-day journey from Florida’s Port Canaveral to Dover, UK, Disney Magic brought around 2,400 passengers to the US port. After leaving Boston, the ship headed for Sydney, Nova Scotia and will also make stops in Dublin, Ireland and Liverpool, UK before the end of her voyage.
“Boston is both an extraordinary homeport and a great port of call and our economy benefits each time someone cruises into or out of Boston,” said Lisa Wieland, Massport port director. “We welcome Disney Magic to the Port of Boston and look forward to working closely with Disney Cruise Line to bring new and exciting trips and itineraries to the city in the future.”
Boston handled nearly 330,000 day call and homeporting passengers last year and is set to welcome eight more maiden calls in 2016.
“We are excited to welcome Disney Magic as the first of nine maiden calls this season at Cruiseport Boston,” said Thomas Glynn, Massport CEO. “Disney Cruise Line offers a unique experience for families and as more new ships like this one call Boston, we are hoping to appeal to a broader customer base. This addition to the schedule shows our commitment to building and maintaining strong business relationships, providing good-paying blue-collar jobs in the cruise industry, and contributing to the continually growing regional economy.”
