Emerald Cruises has appointed UK cruise specialist Sarah Wikevand to be godmother of its new superyacht, Emerald Azzurra. She will christen the vessel in Venice, Italy, on 28 May 2022.
Wikevand is the managing director of ROL Cruise, which has contributed towards the success of superyacht cruises and the launch of Emerald Azzurra.
“I have been working with the incredible Emerald Cruises team for over six years now and I am humbled to have been selected as godmother for the line’s first ocean-going superyacht Emerald Azzurra,” said Wikevand. “It is an honour to work closely with the team on such a monumental milestone for Emerald Cruises.”
The yacht accommodates 100 guests in 50 deluxe staterooms and suites, over 80 per cent of which feature a balcony. The vessel has an infinity-style pool, a wellness centre with an infrared sauna, and a marina platform for easy access for water sports and activities.
“We’re incredibly proud to be showcasing our commitment to supporting UK travel agents by having Sarah as our first Emerald Cruises superyacht’s godmother,” said Rob Voss, chief operating officer of the Scenic Group, which includes Scenic and Emerald Cruises. “She is a wonderful advocate for the cruising market and her dedication reflects our own commitment to growing this remarkable industry.”
Emerald Azzurra entered service on 12 March 2022 and is currently sailing an eight-day itinerary focused on Croatia. It will continue sailing cruises to destinations in the Adriatic and Mediterranean coastline before repositioning to Doha, Qatar, in December 2022.
“We cannot wait to welcome Sarah onboard our stunning Emerald Azzurra in Venice next month, as this fantastic luxury yacht is officially christened,” said David Winterton, global director of brand and marketing at Emerald Cruises. “We value our trade partners highly and we’re thrilled that Sarah has graciously accepted to be godmother to Emerald Azzurra. Sarah is set to become the third UK travel agent godmother in our Emerald Cruises fleet and we’re honoured to continue this tradition showing our dedication to our partners.”
The vessel will be joined by its sister ship Emerald Sakara in 2023, when both yachts will operate in the Middle East.
