Danish maritime technology company Electronic & Marine Research Industries (EMRI) is to demo its new flexible joystick panel for passenger ships at SMM Hamburg in Germany this September.

EMRI has used customer feedback on its existing joystick panels to create a new design for the slimline IMJ11 panel, which can easily be installed on cruise ships, mega yachts and survey vessels. The panel also has an improved interface and projects more information onto its centre display than its predecessors.

“Our new joystick panel is based on the wish to offer customers the steering experience they prefer,” said Claus Nortoft Thomsen, owner and CEO at EMRI. “It is basically a standard design, which is flexible enough to be individually customised with a long list of options.”

Ship operators can choose between different steering modules such as a tiller, miniwheel and joystick, El-shaft option and an indoor or outdoor version that comes with a bracket to make the panel portable. These options are designed to make it easy for shipowners and shipyards to integrate the panel into their design plans.

“We want to provide these types of customers with the opportunity to brand products under their own company,” said Thomsen. “By having a panel that can be customised and is easier to work with, we are looking towards further implementing this strategy.”

EMRI will exhibit on Booth 311 in the Danish Pavilion on the ground floor of Hall B1 at SMM Hamburg.
