French operator Brittany Ferries has launched its latest économie ferry at Portsmouth International Port.
To mark Etretat’s maiden voyage from Portsmouth, Brittany Ferries staff presented the first passengers to check in – a British couple – with a bottle of champagne. The couple’s Labrador was also the first dog to travel in one of Etretat’s 13 pet-friendly cabins. The ship is the only ferry between the UK and France to offer this feature.
Branded Brittany Ferries économie, the new service enables passengers to travel from the UK to France or Spain at a reasonable price, without the cruise-style experience normally provided by Brittany Ferries. The line offers a weekend service between Portsmouth and Santander in northern Spain, as well as five return crossings between Portsmouth and Le Havre, France.
Although the service is aimed at those with a tight budget, passengers can enjoy quality French cuisine, while the cabins have en-suite facilities. The ship also features a lounge where seats can be reserved on overnight crossings and two cabins are fully equipped for disabled passengers.
