Carnival Corporation & plc marked Fathom’s inaugural call to the Port of Havana in Cuba with a traditional maritime plaque exchange ceremony on 3 May.

Marking the first time a US cruise ship has sailed to Cuba in more than 50 years, the ceremony took place onboard Fathom’s Adonia. It was attended by the ship’s captain David Box and Enrique Valdes Cardenas, sub-director for North America at the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba.

Following this week’s inaugural trip to Cuba, Fathom’s 704-passenger Adonia will operate seven-day itineraries to Cuba every other week.

During each sailing, travellers will be able to participate in various artistic, educational and humanitarian activities that support cultural and economic development in Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. Guests will also have free time to enjoy the various historic and cultural activities in each of the cities.

Meanwhile, onboard Adonia, guests will be able to participate in a range of activities, including an orientation of Cuba’s history, customs and culture; conversational Spanish lessons; and various other personal enrichment activities. Guests will also be able to watch geographically relevant films, enjoy Cuba-inspired menus and purchase specialist items.
