Fincantieri held a steel-cutting ceremony for Seabourn Cruise Line’s Seabourn Ovation at its shipyard in Genoa, Italy on 7 June.

The ceremony was presided over by Seabourn President Richard Meadows and Genoa shipyard director Raffaele Davassi.

“The cutting of steel is a significant milestone in the creation of Seabourn Ovation, as well as the continuing evolution of the Seabourn fleet and the ultra-luxury cruise segment,” said Meadows. “We are excited to witness this important step and look forward to seeing the ship come together. With Adam D. Tihany's extraordinary design vision and the excellent craftsmanship of Fincantieri, Seabourn Ovation will be matched only by its sister ship, Seabourn Encore, as the most beautiful ultra-luxury vessel ever built.”

At 40,350gt, Seabourn Ovation will be larger than the line’s three existing Odyssey-class vessels – Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest – and will feature an additional deck and expanded public areas when she launches in spring 2018. Like her sister ship Seabourn Encore, which will debut in December 2016, the newbuild will accommodate 604 guests based on double occupancy in all-suite, veranda accommodations.

Hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany will design both newbuilds, drawing inspiration from the line’s yachting heritage. He will design all indoor and outdoor guest areas, including the multiple dining venues, The Spa at Seabourn, showrooms, casino and lounges, outdoor deck areas, and Seabourn Square.
