Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has established a new division to design, manufacture and supply integrated systems in the field of electric, electronic and electromechanical industrial solutions.

Based in Trieste, Italy, the new company will enable Fincantieri’s in-house team of experts to develop solutions that can manage and control all the key functions of a ship, ensuring high performance levels in terms of energy efficiency, comfort and safety.

Using state-of-the art technology and its long shipping experience, Fincantieri will develop solutions to optimise construction activities and meet operating efficiency requirements. This will enable Fincantieri to manage the entire integrated electric package for its customers, offering shipowners a turnkey product that ranges from advanced propulsion systems to onboard electric auxiliary systems.

In particular, Fincantieri SI will work on designing and producing ‘smart ships’, which have reduced energy consumption, lower environmental impact, less noise and vibrations, and can connect to shoreside electric supplies while in port. The company will also focus on optimising vessel space to ensure shipowners can add more passenger-dedicated areas to their vessels.

An after-sales service will ensure that all electric systems are well maintained throughout the ships’ lifecycles.

“In a global world, to be winners and anticipate competitors, companies must be pioneers focusing on innovation, flexibility and dynamism,” said Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri. “As of today, Fincantieri has taken a further step in its strategy of group diversification in highly promising sectors.”

Claudio Andrea Gemme has been appointed president and CEO of Fincantieri SI.

“I am very proud to make available to a great company like Fincantieri my several decades experience in the field of industrial plants, electric systems, automation and energy efficiency,” said Gemme. “Our business will focus on delivering high quality systems and products paying utmost respect for the environment.”
