Fincantieri laid the keel for Silversea’s newbuild Silver Muse at its Sestri Ponente yard in Genoa, Italy, on 10 December.

Marking the start of the ship’s construction, the ceremony was attended by Enzo Visone, Silversea CEO, and Raffaele Davassi, director of Fincantieri.

During the ceremony, Silversea welded eight coins to the ship’s deck to bring good luck to the engineers, captain and crew. Seven of the coins represent the seven continents visited by Silversea ships and include a South African Rand, an Australian dollar, a US half dollar, a Brazilian Real, an Italian Euro, a Singaporean dollar and a commemorative Antarctica trust coin. The eighth coin is a custom-designed Silversea Silver Muse commemorative coin.

“We proudly sail to all seven continents discovering new destinations and ports with our intimate, boutique vessels and we are now one step closer to introducing Silver Muse to the fleet,” said Enzo Visone, Silversea’s CEO. “With an unprecedented variety of dining options and a design across the ship that encourages open air cruising, guests will be able to enjoy magnificent destinations as never before. Silversea looks forward to working closely with Fincantieri throughout the construction phase of Silver Muse and in the run-up to its launch in spring 2017.”

Silversea’s new all-suite Silver Muse will measure 212m in length and will be able to accommodate 596 passengers. Accommodation will include 34 Silver Suites across the three top decks, new two-bedroom Silver Suite configurations, as well as 36 sqm Classic Veranda Suites, a 129 sqm two-bedroom Owner’s Suite, and Grand and Royal suites. The 40,700gt ship will offer eight restaurants – the highest number of restaurants than any other vessel in her category – and various other onboard amenities.

From April 2017, Silver Muse will sail throughout Europe, Canada, North and South America as well as the Caribbean, visiting more than 130 destinations in 34 countries.
