Global integrated power solutions company Rolls-Royce has signed a £3 million contract with Italian cruise ship builder Fincantieri to provide equipment for two Viking Cruises vessels.
The company will supply its integrated rudder and propulsion system Promas for both newbuilds.
“Our highly efficient Promas propulsion system demonstrated an outstanding performance during tank testing,” said Neil Gilliver, president-merchant at Rolls Royce. “While many cruise vessels are now experiencing significant improvements in operational efficiency following Promas upgrades, the installation of this innovative propulsion system during the new-build process will enable Viking Cruises to benefit from the enhanced operational efficiency starting with its maiden voyage.”
Rolls-Royce will also deliver deck machinery and steering gear for the ships, which are due for delivery in 2015 and 2016.
