Italian shipyard Fincantieri is set to construct a fourth ship for French cruise operator Compagnie du Ponant, which is scheduled for delivery in spring 2015.
Like the previous three ships, the 11,000 gt vessel will be built at Fincantieri’s Ancona yard using the latest environmentally friendly technology. Measuring around 142 metres in length and 18 metres in width, the French-flagged ship will cruise at speeds of 16 knots.
Compagnie du Ponant’s 264-passenger newbuild will be sister ship to Le Soleal – which was launched this June – and follows L’Austral and Le Boreal, which were delivered in May 2010 and April 2011 respectively.
“This new order marks a firm consolidation of our relationship with Compagnie du Ponant and allows us to secure a strong foothold globally in a very promising business segment,” said CEO of Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono.
Following her launch, the vessel will offer Alaskan itineraries during the summer, and cruises in Australia and New Zealand during the winter.
