Eurodam has become the first ship in Holland America Line’s (HAL) history to achieve eight consecutive perfect scores in United States Public Health (USPH) inspections.
The ship, which also earned a score of 100 during a previous inspection in October 2014, was inspected by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on 1 February at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“Achieving eight consecutive perfect scores during USPH inspections is an amazing accomplishment and it shows how diligently everyone works to continuously exceed our goals,” said Orlando Ashford, president of HAL. “Congratulations to the Eurodam team for consistently demonstrating how a commitment to excellence and hard work delivers results.”
CDC inspections are part of the Vessel Sanitation Program, which was introduced in the early 1970s and is required for all passenger ships that call at a US port. Conducted twice a year, the unannounced public health inspections and evaluate ships according to a number of categories including adherence to hygienic food handling, preparation and storage procedures; overall galley cleanliness; and the quality of the ship’s potable water supplies, shipboard personnel and the ship as a whole. Scores can range from 0 to 100.
In the past year, Noordam, Zuiderdam, Statendam and Westerdam also earned 100 marks during recent inspections.
