Rune Myre and Tommy Stensrud will serve as captains of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway when it launches in February 2014.

Myre, who has more than 28 years of experience at sea, joined Norwegian in 1998 and served as first officer onboard Norwegian Wind and Norwegian Dream. He then worked as staff captain on Norwegian Sea and Norwegian Dawn, before captaining Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Pearl.

In Myre’s absence, Stensrud will assume the role of captain. Stensrud has worked in a number of positions since joining Norwegain in 1993 and currently serves as captain of Norwegian Pearl.

In addition, Norwegian has appointed Niklas Persson as staff captain, Carsten Fosbo and Oeystein Undrum as chief engineers and Sean Wurmhoeringer as hotel director of Getaway.

“Norwegian Getaway’s arrival in Miami has a lot of significance for us a company since this is the first time in many years that we will have our newest ship based year-round in Miami,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian’s CEO. “We are confident that these seasoned officers have what it takes to ensure that Norwegian Getaway’s inaugural season is extremely successful.”

Norwegian Getaway, sister ship to the recently launched Norwegian Breakaway, will homeport in Miami and will feature hull artwork by local artist David LeBatard. The ship will offer 26 dining venues, interactive Nickelodeon entertainment and the industry’s first GrammyExperience and The Illusionarium dining and entertainment experience. She will also have 678 Ocean Place and The Waterfront venues and a three-storey Sports Complex featuring the Aqua Park with five water slides, two swimming pools and a multilevel, elevated ropes course with 40 different elements.
