Norwegian newbuild completes 24-hour conveyance from Meyer Werft
Getaway reaches Eemshaven

Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest newbuild, left the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 14 November to begin her 24-hour conveyance along the Ems River.

Marking a key milestone in Getaway’s delivery, the river conveyance began at 10pm (local time) and sailed stern-first through the yard’s narrow locks. Led by two navigation officers overseeing bow and stern movement on the bridge, the manoeuvre took around 1.5 hours at a maximum speed of 0.2 knots.

The ship, which measures 1,063 feet in length and 130 feet in width, then continued sailing backwards down the river to combat the strong propulsion in her aft section and increase manoeuvrability.

Getaway reached Eemshaven, Germany at 5pm (local time) on 15 November after passing through the locks in Papenburg, Weener Bridge in Weener, Jann-Berghaus Bridge in Leer and Ems-Barrier in Gandersum.
