Getzner Werkstoffe, an Austrian provider of vibration isolation and protection products, has received NK Certification for its fire-retardant elastomer Sylomer Marine FR from Japanese ship certification agency ClassNK Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.

Sylomer Marine FR is a polyurethane product that suppresses vibrations in fire-prone areas onboard passenger ships and other vessels. The solution is resistant to water, salt water, oils and greases, and it is free from plasticisers and environmentally harmful substances.

The material is used to minimise vibrations in floating floors, decoupling passenger and crew cabins, wheelhouses and engine rooms. The NK Certification approves the specifications of Sylomer Marine FR for its safety-compliant usage onboard ships.

“With Sylomer we can elastically decouple cabins, wheelhouses or machine rooms and efficiently reduce the transmission of structure borne noise,” said Thomas Gamsjäger, senior vice president of the industry division at Getzner Werkstoffe. “Floating floors increase the comfort levels onboard substantially. But not only that: The service life in these areas is optimised, and the damage to the infrastructure minimised.”
