Bill Gibbons, the current director of industry body the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), has been appointed as director of the consumer PR campaign ‘Discover Ferries’.
The appointment becomes effective on 1 May 2013 and follows the closure of the PSA, with responsibility for ferries moving to the UK Chamber of Shipping, and cruise operations to CLIA UK and Ireland.
“I am very excited to be returning to my ferry roots to head the Discover Ferries campaign under the aegis of the UK Chamber of Shipping,” said Bill Gibbons.
In his new position, Gibbons will work with Steve Tuckwell, chairman of the Discover Ferries PR committee and the current PSA PR agency Four bgb, to support the campaign, which promotes the value and flexibility of ferry travel.
Four bgb has also helped to create the annual National Ferry Fortnight, which was launched in 2009 to celebrate the benefits of sea travel.
Discover Ferries chairman Steve Tuckwell said: “This year’s National Ferry Fortnight was our best ever, and we are very pleased to have retained the services of both Bill and the ferry PR team at Four bgb to front the Discover Ferries campaign from our new home at the UK Chamber of Shipping.”
