The 19th edition of the GreenPort Congress and Cruise 2024 will take place at Haropa Port in Le Havre, France, from 23-25 October.

GreenPort Congress and Cruise aims to promote industry collaboration, shared practice and innovative developments as ports move towards decarbonisation and sustainability. The event will bring together port professionals and stakeholders involved in environmental management to share insights, ideas and practicable solutions to address legislative and policy requirements.

Sessions and topics discussed at the two-day event will include infrastructure development, new technology, electrification of ports, cruise terminals and equipment, green fuel transition and green corridors, renewable energy, and the role of smart ports in the future of the industry.

The event will be chaired by Dr Chris Wooldridge, who is science coordinator at EcoPorts. He is also actively involved in maritime research and conference programmes.

“Delivering the environmental imperatives of compliance, protection and sustainability at a time of such global, political and social change presents many challenges to the port sector and its stakeholders,” said Woolridge. “GreenPort Congress and Cruise, as ever, provides the opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience between colleagues as a positive step to identifying practicable and effective response options.”

A programme of events will include presentations by industry speakers who will offer insights on the work already being undertaken by maritime ports and terminals in reducing carbon footprints and dealing with environmental considerations. A number of networking events will also be on the agenda.

“I’m delighted to be hosting the next GreenPort Congress and Cruise in Le Havre, an international event that gathers the port community to discuss the latest in sustainable practice,” said Edouard Philippe, mayor of Le Havre and former French prime minister. “The Port of Le Havre is already very committed to this green approach – Haropa Port is an example of the best France has to offer in terms of decarbonisation of transport and industry. Le Havre is also the headquarters of the International Association of Cities and Ports, so it’s only natural that we wanted this 2024 edition to be held here.”
