HAL renews Microsoft deal

Holland America Line (HAL) has renewed its partnership with Microsoft to continue offering on-board computer and digital camera enrichment classes.

Passengers onboard all 15 HAL ships can attend the complementary classes in The Digital Workshop, which is powered by Windows and includes Windows 8-certified PCs, a wireless network and flat-screen TVs.

Microsoft-trained ‘Techsperts’ provide workshops enabling passengers of various skill levels to increase their knowledge of photo editing, movie and slideshow creation, PC organisation and cloud storage with SkyDrive. Guests can also use the one-on-one coaching ‘Techspert Time’ service, which is available 70 hours a week.

The new Windows 8 curriculum will offer more than 20 different 50-minute workshops focusing on the latest features of Windows 8.

As part of the contract, the onboard workshop venues will also be renovated and rebranded.

“These free classes are very popular and teach skills that are new to many of our guests,” said Richard Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programmes. “Microsoft is an incredible partner, and their Techsperts help guests go home with valuable knowledge and an enjoyable onboard experience.”
