The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has started construction work on a third cruise terminal at Hamburg Cruise Center in Germany on 4 July.

Cruise Center 3 (CC3), which has been developed in cooperation with Hamburg Airport, is located at the Kronprinzkai quay in the port’s Mittlerer Freihafen area and will be used for an initial period of 15 years. It will be built on a site equivalent to the size of two football pitches and will be able to accommodate up to 8,000 passengers at any one time.

Guests will board cruise ships in the terminal’s west building, while disembarkation will take place in the east building to streamline baggage and passenger handling processes.

The HPA will install traffic lights at the intersection to the new CC3 terminal, while a new public jetty will be built in the eastern area of the terminal complex to enable passengers to reach the building by ferry, as well as by road.

In addition, HPA will retrofit the existing quay walls with fenders, bollards and pile moorings to enable large cruise liners to dock easily and provide additional parking spaces and access roads.

The overall project, which also includes improvements to transport connections and future investment in the existing Cruise Centre 1 terminal, will cost around €80 million.
