This year has been a challenging one for the passenger shipping industry but as it comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the achievements, passion and innovative spirit that have kept the sector strong during these troubling times and paved the way for future success.
Over the past 12 months we’ve brought you a wide range of news on our website and published four magazines – the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter issues of Cruise & Ferry Review and our annuals, Cruise & Ferry Interiors and Cruise & Ferry Itinerary Planning. We hope you have been as inspired as we have by the cruise lines, ferry operators, ports and destinations and many other stakeholders who have shared their updates and insights with us.
If you find a spare moment during the festive period, why not take a look at some of our highlights from 2020?
We have been privileged to speak with multiple cruise executives this year including Carnival Corporation president and CEO Arnold Donald, who discussed Carnival Corporation’s strong partnerships, as well as Royal Caribbean Group’s chairman and CEO Richard Fain, who outlined how he is safely navigating the company through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Other key highlights have included cover stories focusing on how Volume Creative is driving sustainability in cruise ship interior design and Port Authority of Jamaica’s successful mission to bring cruising back to Port Royal for the first time in 40 years.
Meanwhile, some of our key features have explored how expert interior designers use the core principles of design psychology onboard passenger ships, the different ways the cruise industry is working together to rebuild cruise tourism; the role Unesco World Heritage sites will play in driving demand for cruising after the pandemic; safety at sea; how classification societies are helping with post-pandemic recovery; and much more.
We also published a special report about digitalisation in passenger shipping in collaboration with Inmarsat, and launched CFR’s first-ever Ship of the Year Awards, revealing the winners in our Spring/Summer 2020 issue. They are designed to celebrate the new cruise ships, river cruise vessels, ferries and high-speed ferries that surpassed our readers’ expectations in terms of innovative construction and design, onboard amenities and experiences, and environmental stewardship when they debuted in 2019. Many thanks to all our readers and partners that have supported Cruise & Ferry in 2020. We look forward to bringing you more exclusive insights and updates from the global passenger shipping next year.
Here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2021!
