Harris CapRock Communications, a global provider of managed communication solutions for remote and harsh environments, will partner with O3b Networks to deliver an advanced communications solution for Royal Caribbean Cruises’s Allure of the Seas.
O3b Networks signed a multi-year contract to provide its new O3bMaritime service for passengers onboard Allure of the Seas in January 2013. It previously agreed to supply the service on Oasis of the Seas in the summer of 2012.
In May 2012, Harris CapRock signed a five-year contract with Royal Caribbean to supply communications services onboard its fleet of 35 ships in its Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises brands. The company has already completed the de-installation and installation of over 120 large antenna systems onboard the fleet.
O3b will supply the onboard broadband service via a low-latency, medium-earth orbit satellite system, while Harris CapRock will install stabilised antenna systems and provide a fully-managed service to Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas. The collaborative solution will enable Royal Caribbean to offer a wide range of reliable consumer and enterprise broadband services equivalent to onshore telecommunication standards, allowing passengers and crew to enjoy fast performance and download speeds.
“As the systems integrator and managed service provider for these sister ships, Harris CapRock is focused on ensuring a smooth installation and commissioning of what will be an unrivaled Broadband service at sea,” said Rick Simonian, president of maritime solutions, Harris CapRock.
Steve Collar, CEO of O3b Networks, added: “Our innovation, combined with Harris CapRock’s capability as a world-class satellite systems integrator, has created a world-class partnership, of which we are extremely proud.”
