Heraklion Port Authority stakeholders gathered for a meeting last week to discuss cruise tourism and ensure sufficient plans are in place to accommodate cruise passengers for the upcoming season.

More than twenty organisations participated in the meeting including the Region of Crete, the city of Heraklion, a Heraklion representative from the Tourism Organization, Heraklion traffic police, tourism police, the traders association, the chamber of commerce, union representatives of shipping agents and the association of professional guides.

Talks focused on how to best promote Greek tourism products and ensure guests receive a high level of service. During the meeting, John Bras, president and CEO of the Port of Heraklion, discussed the actions his organisation has taken to promote cruising, which include exhibiting at the upcoming Cruise Shipping Miami event.

Bras also emphasised the need for cooperation between all stakeholders, including local businesses, to boost tourism in the area, building on the city’s reputation as a consistently competitive cruise destination.
