Heraklion Port Authority has been awarded the 2014 Tourism Awards Gold Prize for Excellence in Services in Travel and Transportation.

Greece’s annual Tourism Innovation Awards are organised by the Ministry of Tourism and recognise businesses or sector associations involved in travel, hospitality and other tourism related services. Ioannis Bras, president and CEO of Heraklion Port Authority, accepted the award.

Over the last few years, Heraklion Port Authority has upgraded its cruise services and port infrastructures and has also introduced its ‘5 Senses Experience Program’, which aims to improve the passenger experience. It has introduced several new services such as the HER City Guide app and other interactive applications that were developed in cooperation with Crete’s regional government.

The port has also worked with the city’s airport and other local organisations to enhance the quality of tourist services across Heraklion and to help establish the port as a popular homeport for east Mediterranean cruises.

“Heraklion Port Authority is determined to continue its effort to achieve excellence in cruise services and attract more homeporting clients on the basis of true merit,” the port said in a written statement.
