Southeast Asian river cruise line Heritage Line has refurbished its vessel Violet on the ship’s 15th anniversary of sailing.

Launched in 2009, Violet features a French-Indochinese design and is the smallest of Heritage Line’s fleet of seven ships. The ship currently offers cruises around Vietnam’s Halong Bay.

The refurbishment project has redesigned the vessel’s two 344-square-foot Junior Suites and four 409-square-foot Imperial Suites, which now feature a contemporary design inspired by Halong Bay’s distinctive elements – water, mountains, clouds, phoenix, moon and dragon. Hand-painted murals and carved art-deco details pay tribute to these themes, with colours, textures and patterns evoking the natural landscape and folklore of the bay.

A new private dining venue has also been added to the ship, offering dining for small groups of up to four guests. The venue, which is available by advance reservation, features a menu exclusively curated for its guests and bespoke décor.

All public spaces, including the restaurant, library lounge, spa room and bar area have been refurbished. The restaurant now features a new design that emphasises Violet’s French Indochinese and Art Deco interior design while the library lounge, spa and bar featured new furnishings and an updated décor.

Finally, Violet’s Sun Deck has been expanded to offer additional space, allowing each guest a sun bed. Two cocoon loungers have been added for couples, and outdoor dining options now offer more space between tables for greater privacy.

“We are committed to continually enhancing our vessels to ensure each journey offers an unmatched blend of luxury and authenticity,” said Andreas Schroetter, director of sales and marketing for Heritage Line. “With Violet’s newly modernised design, we’ve elevated its status as one of the most private luxury ships available in Halong Bay, offering an intimate and refined experience—ideal for honeymooners, VIPs, multi-generational groups, families, and private charter clients seeking exclusivity alongside a deep connection to Southeast Asia’s rich cultural heritage.”

Violet will return to sailing on 31 October 2024.
