Vessel design, marine weather detection, information and communication management, crowd counting, training and e-learning, and mobile ticketing systems will be hot topics at the second annual Ferry Safety and Technology Conference this June.

Convened by the Worldwide Ferry Association and co-sponsored by Interferry, the conference will be held in downtown Manhattan, New York on 2-3 June 2016. It will bring together ferry owners and operators, naval architects and marine engineers, and technology developers and providers to improve efficiency and safety around the world.

Presentations will feature international speakers, including Mary Ann Pastrana from Archipelago Ferries, Vasilios Vainalis from Thoreb Sweden, Len Roueche from Förde Reederei Seetouristik, John Waterhouse from Eliot Bay Design Group, Joe Hudspeth from All American Marine, and Murray Goldberg from Marine Learning Systems. US speakers will include Malcolm McLaren from McLaren Engineering, Charles Cushing from CR Cushing, James De Simone from Staten Island Ferry, Don Liloia from NY Waterway, and Greg Dronkert from HMS Marine.

On 2 June, delegates will be able to attend various presentations and networking events, as well as a sunset ride on a Staten Island ferry. The winner of the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association’s Third International Design Competition, which is focused on developing a ro-pax ferry service linking ports on Indonesia’s Sabu Sea, will also be revealed at an evening reception.

The following day, attendees will be able to participate in an interactive discussion about telematics technologies, which will take place onboard a ferry. The ferry will also visit current and future landing sites to enable representatives from McLaren, Moffatt Nichol, and the NYC Economic Development Commission’s ferry project to discuss their resilience, safety and affordability.
