Norwegian Cruise Line returned to the Port of Houston for the first time in more than seven years on 11 October.
Marking the start of Houston’s autumn season, the line’s 2,376-passenger Norwegian Jewel berthed at the Bayport Cruise Terminal. The inaugural visit was commemorated with a ceremony onboard Norwegian Jewel, during which the ship’s captain Kenneth Harstrom welcomed officials from the Port of Houston Commission.
“We are excited about the impact Norwegian Jewel will bring to the city of Pasadena and the greater Houston region, said Janiece Longoria, port commission chairman. “According to an independent research firm, just one sailing season will create nearly 100 jobs and US$50 million economic impact locally.”
Norwegian Jewel, which returned to service on 17th May after an extensive renovation, will sail 27 Western Caribbean cruises from Houston until 11 April 2015. Port calls include Cozumel, Mexico; Belize City, Belize; and Banana Coast, Honduras.
