The International Association of Ports and Harbors has released the agenda for its 28th World Ports Conference, which will be held from 6-10 May at LA Live in Los Angeles.

The bi-annual conference will be attended by global port authorities and will address a range of economic, security, logistics and environmental aspects of port operations worldwide.

Delegates will also attend sessions on maritime piracy, planning for extreme weather events, the use of liquefied natural gas as vessel fuel and ‘Zero Emissions’ strategies in global ports. Discussions will also focus on developments in port community system technology, challenges facing ports and cruise lines, and port finance, as well as advancing women in the port and maritime industries and port trucking logistics.

Keynote speakers include Captain Richard Phillips, who was taken hostage by Somali pirates in 2009, and ocean explorer Don Walsh, who will discuss emerging maritime trade routes through Arctic Ocean.

“The agenda for the 28th World Ports Conference very much reflects the variety of interests, trends and activities engaged in by port authorities around the world,” said Arley Baker, conference vice president and senior communications director at the Port of Los Angeles. “The event provides a great opportunity for ports and port service providers to receive the latest information and insights about the industry and network with port and maritime professionals from every continent.”
