The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has published a new report to support ship operators as they adapt to changes to working regulations.
The fourth edition of Guidelines on the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (SCW) covers the latest regulatory changes to safety codes, operating in polar regions, training crew members operating ro-ro passenger ships, guidance for crew onboard dynamically positioned vessels, and more.
“Changes in technology, onboard processes, and a greater understanding of the importance of crew welfare provide a new environment against which STCW must operate,” said Chris Oliver, principal director of marine at ICS. “This new publication, our first STCW update in 10 years, recognises those factors and presents the information as it applies to modern working, including supporting a better understanding of work and rest hour compliance with both STCW and the Maritime Labour Convention.”
